Presbyterian Healthcare and Huber Technology to Support District’s STEM Education and Outdoor Learning Labs

February 20, 2012 – Charlotte, NC – The Catawba River District, a regional organization focused on sustainable community and economic development, is pleased to announce that Presbyterian Healthcare and Huber Technology have become strategic partners supporting the district’s STEM education initiatives and first outdoor learning labs.

“We are thrilled to announce these strategic partnerships and the acceleration of our first learning labs and STEM education program,” said Edna Chirico, Executive Director for the River District.

The learning labs that are being created will include labs devoted to organic produce, local protein resources, renewable energy, eating local, and a model for a community-working farm. When the labs are completed this spring, the River District will host students from Mecklenburg and Gaston counties and the region to working examples of STEM education and tools that will be designed to engage students.
Presbyterian is dedicated to health, wellness and advancing sustainable solutions for the communities it serves. Huber is similar very community, water quality, and innovation focused, and both organizations recognized the quality of the programs being developed by the River District in addition to the critical needs and opportunities of this vital part of the Charlotte region.
